City market WFB is a great little spot for a light lunch. My husband and I like to dip off and have lunch here every once in a while. The quinoa salad is SOOOO good! The staff is also friendly.

This was worst breakfast I have ever had in a restaurant. I'm not a huge fan of the cafeteria style setup but I was willing to give this place a shot for breakfast despite that. My husband and I both ordered the classic breakfast, coffee, and a side of pancakes. My scrambled eggs were overcooked, and the sausage tasted like it was microwaved then thrown on the grill to put on grill lines - it was mushy and burnt along the grill marks. The fruit was not fresh it looked slimy and the strawberries were grey - I did not eat them. My husbands breakfast was equally as bad his bacon was super burnt along the grill marks and his fruits was nasty. The pancake we got as a side was mealy and not cooked it all the way through. Even the coffee here was gross. Never ever again.

City Market can boast of inept but earnest service by teens who are poorly trained and unsupervised. The food is unseasoned. The room is indeed sterile and poorly designed. I find the place empty at times and bustling at others, but neither the service, the food, nor the ambience explains the latter. Seriously, why does this place stay open when there are better, cheaper options -- even from national franchises.

Eggs anyone? Strata vs Frittata vs Quiche...whoa what a mind fuk and it was only 10 am. They all look the same buuuuut they're not. How's this for fancypants, they have all three on their menu! AND they have a designated vegetarian menu for the fruits and nuts. My friend, also a fruit and nut...and I say this in the most loving of ways, ordered the Market Vegetable Strata and I ordered the Market Quiche. I can't say I'm in love with a stripper...wait wrong review. Er, awkward...I meant Stratta, no Frittata, NO...I had the quiche and I can't say it was memorable. But I can say this place is a nice, quick order breakfast option...kinda like a Panera but not because they call it the City Market. And it's got plenty of seating inside or outside on the sidewalk patio, fresh air is good.

I like this place generally... But my most recent experience was kinda of frustrating. Stopped in for breakfast quickie with the whole family. This was my interaction with the counter person: We can make a fresh scrambler but we can't make the breakfast panini without green onions because the egg patty is premixed... Fail. We have no iced coffee... You can get an iced latte but not an iced coffee. Iced coffee recipe: take coffee that is being replaced with fresh stuff, pour it in a pitcher... Put the pitcher in the fridge... Then when it gets cold... You pour it over ice... Mind blown. I like the place, but the customer service is so so... Lots of aloof young cashiers who don't seem to grasp the customer service side of it. I grew up in whitefish bay... Can't be easy to find help that's really passionate and focused but how hard is fresh eggs and iced coffee?

I play Mah Jongg here every week and the staff is very accommodating. I love the variety of salads and they are all excellent and very fresh. It's a great place to spend several hours every Tuesday.

The atmosphere in City Market locations always feels very sterile to me. I appreciate the sophisticated decor, but the one in Tosa especially feels much like a hospital cafeteria to me - especially with all the perfect symmetry of the table layout and light green and chrome. There is nothing outstanding on the menu, and I've sampled several items. With my egg wrap sandwich this morning I really wanted salsa to dip it in, like Alterra, especially because it was very bland. My toast that was supposed to come with it was served late - the wait staff forgot it - and completely dry - I wasn't given butter or jam, and there was none on the table. This has never happened anywhere else I've ever been, ever. Thats something the greasiest of diners always provides! A bugaboo of mine that maybe doesn't bother others so much (not a jazz fan!) - we had a business meeting today at the big back table at the Shorewood location (which I otherwise like that they have) and jazz music was blaring in our ears - it made conversation difficult. If you're going to present a good place for meetings - and its obvious that this is the intent, as there is a sign reserving this spot for groups of 5 or more - ya really ought to turn down the muzak for ya guests. Two nice things I can say about City Market - I like their plentiful BIG tables - great if you are meeting a group, and I don't know of any other coffee shop in Milwaukee with such ample seating. Also, I liked that today in the location in Shorewood they were serving Valentine and Anodyne coffees - yay for local roasteries! 11/15/12 Jazz music turned WAY down in the back room. Staff a little friendlier today. Atmosphere feeling less sterile...maybe its the wintertime decorations. Added a star!

Friendly Fast and Vegan!!! I love their muffins and the vegan chocolate muffin is delicious. Also the raisin walnut rolls and bread. Yummy!

I feel compelled to write a review considering so many poor reviews of this location. I love City Market in WFB. I go there regularly and especially love their breakfast items. Sure, it's a little more pricey but so is Starbucks and City Market is a way better option. There's free wifi, it's very clean, the food is fresh, the dessert selection makes me break my diet every now and then, I've gotten to know most of the staff by name, they have a lovely outdoor patio and seating along the sidewalk for warmer weather, and there's plenty of free parking around. I think things were a little rocky, service-wise, when it first opened, but it seems to be fine now. My favorite special is the waldorf salad. In the colder months, it's great to come in and have a hot apple cider. I moved here from out of state, and this is my favorite local cafe.

Sidewalk seating and all day breakfast. I stop here every once in awhile, but it just isn't my type of joint. The food is good. You order at the counter. I'm not a big fan of the clientele, although that has nothing to do with the restaurant itself. Although I live in Whtefish Bay, I am much more at home in Cudahay, Riverwest, or Tosa...

A couple friends and I went here a few times last month. There is a parking lot located just across the street which is a good money saver. Upon walking in the door you are immediately greeted by all the tables and patrons. I felt that the serving area is in an awkward position. While glancing at the menu (morning=breakfast), I noticed that the prices were pretty reasonable for the items described. I also discovered that there were multiple coffee selections available which allowed me refill my mug multiple times. I ordered the Breakfast Flatbread Pizza. I was happy to find that the food seems to be made to order which is then brought out to your table. Once my entree arrived I noticed a good an adequate portion. The pizza was very good and full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the potatoes on the pizza. It took me awhile to find a decent tasting coffee out of the selection that was provided. My first cup was quite bad tasting. The decor is trying to be modestly modern. I just wish the overall room would be redesigned so the guest doesn't walk directly into the seating area.

I can't understand the low ratings for this spot. We come here all of the time when we visit my parents in Milwaukee. Delicious sandwiches and salads, great soup, and terrific desserts. I wish we had a place like this in Chicago! This is definitely a breakfast or lunch spot -- when we go for dinner, especially on the weekends, it is rather empty and feels a bit strange. Sometimes I wonder why they stay open for dinner on the weekends (although I'm glad that they do because my 2 year old often insists in stopping here -- he loves the soup!) Prices are reasonable for delicious and fresh food. Large seating area with tons of tables means that you never have to wait to enjoy your food. Food comes out quickly and the employees are friendly and helpful. What's not to like?

My family and I am a huge fan of City Market. The food and desserts are great. The cupcakes have gotten smaller and more expensive over the years but I still think they are one of the best in town. Sometimes the services can be slow but they are always friendly and polite. Great option for casual dining.

After originally giving a negative review and a long wait I decided to go back. People are much nicer now and the food tastes great. Would have possibly given 5 stars except for the original experience

$11 for a 1/3-lb cheeseburger with waffle fries and a bottled soda. Hmm. It was OK, but nothing special. It's not clear whether to take my stuff to the garbage or leave it. Looks like some leave it and others don't. I love the location (1 block from my house) and I hope it survives. It's needed. This "soft open" thing is strange and I hope it becomes officially open soon.

You know it's overpriced when it's rated 3 dollar signs....the same rating as my favorite Chicago restaurant. Did I mention that that restaurant is owned and operated by a James Beard award winning chef? And was voted best new restaurant in Chicago? They have no drink board, as advertised on their website. Had they offered more than a monthly coffee special (that didn't appeal to me) perhaps they would have had my business - instead I left....empty handed. Everything in the reviews below is true - bad management, and under-seasoned, mediocre food at best - clearly the owners have not read or acknowledged any of the complaints that all of us have had. I have been told that the delicious sauce that Erin P referred to below is no longer offered. Erin if that was your saving grace, I do not recommend a return. I wouldn't be surprised if they go out of business. Good luck City Market in Whitefish Bay.

The salads tasted as if they had run across the street to Sendiks, opened a few bags of lettuce and shredded carrots and then threw last nights leftover chicken on top. Price? $21. And, you bus your own table. It's a long way from the Shorewood location where the meat was warm and the whole salad was a delicious experience.

I have to admit, .I was disappointed. I didn't want to be; I really didn't. Over the past several years I've had the occasion to stop into the Shorewood store but it had been some time. So while shopping across the street in WFB we decided to stop in to check out the space/the menu. After looking at tour options, we decided to stay and have a bite to eat. I asked the young man behind the register what the soup of the day was. He stared at me blankly and said, "what do you mean, like, for today?" He had to ask (4) other employees what the soup was (including the guys in kitchen - who didn't have the answer) - apparently it was a difficult question. We ended up ordering the creamy french onion soup that I had remembered so fondly along with a Fajita Wrap and a Burger with fries. After placing I order - we found a nice little table to sit at. There were only (6) other people in the joint, already seated and eating...so it was not busy...but it still took over 30minutes to get our food. The young man who had taken our order - finally appeared with the soup and our entrees, all at the same time. He quickly walked away without telling us that we had to fetch our own utensils (which have been appreciated at the time we placed and paid the order). The soup was barely room temp...The burger, while it had decent flavor was accompanied by 6 waffle fries that were also room temperature but served with a delicious dipping sauce. That dipping sauce may have been the saving grace. Yum. But to only receive 6 fries - it was more of a tease. The Fajita Wrap was uneventful. The ingredients seemed fresh but there was no real flavor or anything special about it...all in all the look and feel of the space did not support the mediocrity of it's staff and the food. Its was over priced for what they turned out. We might go back and give them another chance or perhaps limit ourselves to the bakery.

This location is a hot mess. The menu is nice (the same as the Shorewood location), but I've been their three times and each time they messed up my order at least twice. The service is horrific and I do hope the owners take note because it would be nice to see this be as successful as the Shorewood cafe.

You have been to the City Market in Shorewood, right? Well, this is pretty much the same in terms of the menu but the space is SO MUCH BETTER! They really have an outstanding space that has seating for what must be 100 people. They have 2 outdoor seating areas (I asuume one that allows for dogs, but not sure). The menu last night did seem more limited than that of Shorewood but it may be the "soft" opening menu, not sure. There were 3 soups, 3 salads and decent amount of sandwhiches. I usually get the Veggie Stack---however I was disappointed in the bread quality both my bread and my dining companions bread seemed to be day old.....not cool. Be prepared for the price as well. One veggie sandwhich (comes with cookie) will run almost $7---wow. That seems steep. I would understand if it was LOADED with veggies and on some solid bread but it wasn't. I was a little disappointed but know I'll be back because it is in my neighborhood and want to support them. On a positive note, it is very kid friendly (Or I guess it could be not so positive depending on how you look at it !)

We usually rate Chinese buffets, but we did eat here and thought our visit is worth a review. We ordered a pasta and two sandwiches for take-out. The first thing we noticed was the pretentious prices. Next, when we brought the food home, we noticed that one of the sandwiches was missing the meat. So Snob brought it back. No offer of compensation or even a free cookie, nothing. The sandwich was re-made. Snob checked it before he left. Good thing because now the sandwich was missing the cheese. It was brought back again, re-made again, and no offer of compensation... again. I refuse to go back there and pay $7.00 for a turkey and cheese sandwich if that is how they treat their customers. The management seems really poor. Very disappointed.

This isn't quite as good as the city market on capital but it still deserves 3-stars. I have come here a lot, had good and bad clerks, but the food has always been good when they have remembered to include it.

Delicious cinnamon rolls!

Let's get right to the point: this place stinks. It's inexplicably packed at lunch exposing the lack of decent restaurants in WFB. Wait staff is shaky and uninspired and there is a lack of food order/delivery process that makes any sense. But the worst part is the food. The sandwiches have more bread than Bill Gates and it's like walking into a point in time before condiments were invented. If there were a Bland City, this place would be the Capitol Building. VERY disappointing.

So much promise. It's a really nice cafe/deli set up, but I'm pretty sure when we got here (1100 on 7/16) they were using yesterday's bread. Needs improvement on logistical points (e.g. their self-service station is split in two, with silverware 20 feet away from the straws, and no clear directions from one to the other.) Disappointing. However, they just opened and we're going to give them another try.
